PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE KEY WORDS

Pledge: a solemn promise or undertaking 

·       Solemn: characterized by deep sincerity

 

Allegiance: loyalty or commitment of a subordinate to a superior -or- of an individual to a group or cause

 

Republic: a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected president rather than a monarch i.e. not a King, not a Dictator, etc.  


Indivisible: Not divisible e.g. a nation that cannot be divided 

 

Justice: the maintenance or administration of what is just --- especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishments

·      Just: based on or behaving according to what is morally right and fair

·      Impartial: treating all rivals or disputants equally; fair and just

Notes: Congresses nationally and stateside are the legislative bodies for the population that they represent and consist of a: 

·       House of Representatives – each representative (nationally and stateside) is elected every 2 years, for 2-year terms, by U.S. citizens who live in that representative's respective District. It can be affected by: 

o   Voter suppression 

o   Gerrymandering 

o   Blatant negative propaganda especially from non-Americans e.g. Russian Bots 

o   Uncaring U.S. Citizens who do not vote (aka irresponsible)

o   There are no term limits for Representatives

  

·       Senate – 1/3 of senators (nationally and stateside) are elected every 2 years, for 6-year terms, by U.S. citizens who live in that Senator's State. It can be affected by: 

o   Voter suppression 

o   Blatant negative propaganda especially from non-American e.g. Russian Bots 

o   Uncaring U.S. Citizens who do not vote (aka irresponsible)

o   There are no term limits for Senators

 

Elections currently are affected by irresponsible social media that does not police and/or filter its users for lies, disinformation, propaganda, false data, distortions, misrepresentations, personal attacks, threats, etc.


Elections are also affected by bad actors, unethical politicians and "dark" money (see Citizens United).
